What is the difference between day-old chicks and point-of-lay pullets?

Day-old chicks are just hatched and need brooding, heat and several weeks of care before they are self-sufficient. Point-of-lay pullets are young hens at about eighteen weeks, ready to start laying within a few weeks of arrival. Pullets cost far more per bird but skip the riskiest stage and start earning much sooner.
