You can, and many growers do to cut costs, but home mixes go wrong easily. Getting protein, energy, calcium, amino acids and vitamins balanced takes proper formulation, and a mix that looks fine can quietly cost you more in slow growth than it saved. If you are going to mix, do it for older birds and buy compounded feed for the starter phase.
